NanoBiotechnology
Münster has a long history of excellence in biomedical and analytical research and a world-wide reputation in the innovation of nanotechnology. The nano-bioanalytical focus is a logical advancement from nanoanalytics and life science research of international standard carried out at the University of Münster and at the University of Applied Sciences in Münster. Successful life science companies include, for example, Wyeth Pharma, Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions, ION-TOF GmbH and a number of small innovative start-ups, frequently originating from the university. Over twenty biotechnology companies strengthen Europe's scientific and economic leadership in nano-biotechnology. Several interdisciplinary centres have already been established to promote innovation in nano-bioanalysis. They include:
- Center for Nanotechnology (CeNTech),
- National Center for Nanoanalytics (Kompetenzzentrum Nanoanalytik),
- German-Chinese Centre for Nanoscience,
- Laser Center of the University of Applied Science ,
- Interdisciplinary Centre of Electron Microscopy (ICEM),
- Max-Planck Institute for Vascular Biology (MPI),
- Center for the Molecular Biology of Inflammation (ZMBE),
- Interdisciplinary Center of Clinical Research (IZKF)
Education and staff
A highly qualified workforce is guaranteed by the more than 5000 students enrolled in the life science and biomedical study courses at the University of Münster and the engineer courses at the University of Applied Sciences Münster. In addition, the special biotechnology study course, the International Graduate School of Chemistry, the institute for "Business Management in Chemistry" and the "Institute for Entrepreneurship and Business development" provide necessary management skills beside the scientific education and thereby ensure the commercial development of the nanobioanalytics location Münster.
