Business Services
Strong profile for services
Although the nation-wide trend toward downsizing manpower is perceptible even in Münster, its tertiary sector is marked by the persistent rise in the number of jobs and in sales. The traditionally strong fields of finance, insurance and administration are continually joined by new companies which satisfy the ever-growing need for advice and service, as well as for leisure and health care offers.
Münster‘s profile of competence comprises the following:
- Health care (biotechnology, health care facilities, medical engineering and health insurance)
- Real estate (facility management, building technology, etc.)
- Loans and insurance (generalists, specialists, agents and financial advisors)
- Business services (agencies for advertising, PR and events, software developers, IT service providers, legal and business advice)
The health care economy is an important locational factor in Münster. With the university’s hospital complex, a comprehensive range of training programmes and events and a broad spectrum of medical technology, Münster has long established itself as a health care hub. To further expand this important sector, "Münster – The City of Health" has become a fixed element of the city’s marketing concept, as well as of its structural and economic policy. Mergers and concentrations within the insurance and financial industry have reinforced Münster’s services sector in many cases; for example, Stadtsparkasse Münster Ost with more than 1,800 employees is one of Germany’s largest financial institutes. Following the merger between the insurers Westfälische Provinzial Versicherungen and Provinzial Nord, Kiel, the joint insurance holding will be operating as a public limited company domiciled in Münster. GAD eG, an IT service provider for around 540 Volksbank and Raiffeisenbank branches, has created some 320 additional jobs in Münster as a result of locational clustering.
